The DfE have announced today that a £2.4 million funding pot will be available for schools to pilot knowledge-rich programmes in Science, History and Geography at Key Stage 2 or Key Stage 3.
This funding is a part of the £7.7 million Curriculum Fund which was announced in January this year, and has been introduced to deliver the more “challenging National Curriculum introduced in 2014” and to help reduce teacher workload. Schools minister Nick Gibb has said that the programme will save teacher time and “make it easier for them to deliver knowledge-rich and engaging lessons”.
In order to be eligible to apply for a share of the £2.4million, a nominated lead school must have been graded good or outstanding at its most recent Ofsted inspection in addition to having performance data above or in line with the national average in a number of key measures.
The DfE stated that every successful school that applies, will receive up to £150,000 to pilot a curriculum programme in Science, History or Geography. A further £100,000 will be granted to the same school for each additional programme developed. The aim for this funding is to enable a series of high-quality resources to be easily accessible to all schools and to benefit millions of children in the long run.
Further details on how to apply and the specification of requirements can be found here. Whilst the programme pilots are expected to begin in January 2019, the deadline is under eight weeks away on the 17th September.
