EHCP Funding

In 2024, after their victory in the general election, Labour promised £740m in funding to to be spent on improving standards in supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and signalled a push for mainstream inclusion in an attempt to save a sector in crisis.

    EHC funding worries

Via our work with several schools, trusts, and local authorities (LA) throughout the country, we are uncovering significant evidence of not only low-quality or not-fit-for-purpose EHCPs, but significant underfunding too, raising concerns about how SEND support is planned and financed.

SEND pupils deserve full support and our work shows many vulnerable children are missing out on essential resources, widening the achievement gap. Budgets are also under strain, with many schools having to divert funds from other areas, limiting innovation and growth, and to top it all off, teachers and leaders are spending valuable time navigating EHCP shortfalls rather than focusing on classroom delivery.

How we are tackling EHCP funding

Along with our sister company, Create: Schools, we are working closely schools, multi-academy trusts (MAT), and LAs to ensure students with EHCPs are set up to succeed by strengthening collaboration between stakeholders, showcasing best practise, and supporting evidence-based proposals that align with the government’s push for mainstream inclusion.

We believe this is an issue that can and should be addressed now. By assessing your current plans, we can work with you to see how your current EHCP funding and provision compares to Government entitlements, how much additional funding your school should be receiving, provide clear, actionable steps to correct underfunding, and more.

    Address your EHCP funding

We have reviewed hundreds of plans and, in some instances, uncovered EHCP funding discrepancies in the hundreds of thousands of pounds.
